Today it became official that hockey would be returned to Winnipeg, as the board of governors passed the relocation from Atlanta. This was the last hurtle that needed to be passed before they officially left Atlanta. They still however, do not have a name. Some have said that it may be unvieled at the draft this firday night, that can be watched live on Vs. if anyone is interested. They pick 8th.
If you've followed my videos, you know how I feel about the return of hockey to Winnipeg. I am completly for it. I've always wanted the Jets to return because I believe the people of Winnipeg loved hockey enough to support the team in their new arena. Atlanta was only filling about half of Phillips Arena in their twelve years there. It took Winnipeg only 15 minutes to reach their 13,000 season ticket mark. There was a waiting list of 800. The arena fits 15,000, so they could sell out every game this season. And these season tickets aren't only for this year. They need to commit for 5 whole seasons of season tickets. That's alot of cash.
As for the name, i think it needs to be the Jets. It is just so fitting, having it be a different name just wouldn't feel right. The Manitoba Moose has been considered, but I think that's too minor league. Another name is often brought up, the Falcons. Then it comes down to whether they should be Winnipeg or Manitoba. I am for Winnipeg, it just has a better ring to it.
Check TSN for the latest details about the Winnipeg (Insert Name Here). They launched their official website today, which you can visit at http://winnipeg.nhl.com/
